Elect First Lady Tonya B. Chesney was born the youngest of eight children to Mrs. Elsie Mae Bethune. She was educated in the Lee County School System and graduated in 1989. Her pursuit of higher education was attained at NC Central University in Durham, North Carolina. She attained a degree in Social Work from Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina as well as a Master’s Degree in Human Services (with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy) from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Lady Chesney is married to her high school sweetheart, Pastor Steve Lincoln Chesney and they are the proud parents of two children, Kaitlyn Patrice (Cameron) and Stephen Xavier.
She grew up as a member of Blandonia Presbyterian Church in Sanford, North Carolina under the leadership of the late Dr. Milton L. Lewis and remembers well his crucifixion message in 1989 and accredits that sermon as an urgent prompting to choose Christ, in the summer of 1989.
Lady Chesney, along with her husband, received salvation on Saturday, August 19, 1989, at a choir anniversary at Liberty Chapel United Church of Christ, in Moncure, North Carolina. They were married on December 28, 1991, and the couple moved to Clarksville, Tennessee and became members of New Birth Jerusalem Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Elder Robert L. Cook and First Lady Anna Maude Cook.
In November, 2006, her husband founded Exousia Christian Fellowship and she is the proud First Lady of the Ministry. Lady Chesney also attributes the leadership and wisdom of the aforementioned Pastors for her understanding, love and knowledge of the Word of God.
Elect First Lady Chesney loves the Lord, and is a believer in prayer and the power of the Holy Ghost. Above all else, she desires that the Saints believe, that God “is” and that “He is a rewarder of those that diligently seek him” as stated in the eleventh Chapter of the Epistle of Hebrews verse six.
